Bunny Wailer morreu esta terça-feira, aos 73 anos, no Andrew's Memorial Hospital em Kingston, informou a ministra da Cultura da Jamaica, Olivia Grange, em comunicado.

A ministra não especificou a causa da morte do percussionista e cantor.

O músico jamaicano foi um dos fundadores dos The Wailers, banda que fez do reggae um fenómeno global a partir dos anos 1960 e que contou também com Bob Marley e Peter Tosh.

Bunny Wailer era tido como uma referência do reggae e manteve um longo percurso a solo após a separação dos The Wailers, com dezenas de álbuns editados entre as décadas de 1970 e 2010.

Sly and Robbie e Lee "Scratch" Perry foram alguns dos nomes com os quais colaborou numa carreira que também passou pelo disco, ska ou dancehall.
